Wasting

Sometimes without any apparent disease the bird's body becomes emaciated, its plumage rough and disarranged and it disgorges its food after eating. This is caused we think either by indigestion or is the effect of mental anxiety or fright.

Better keep the bird warm, change the cage, hanging in another location, and give a change of food. A hard-boiled egg rubbed into a paste and mixed with an equal quantity of cracker crumbs and a teaspoonful of cayenne pepper will usually be relished.
