Rheumatism

Yes, parrots are affected with rheumatism occasionally, and it usually shows itself by swelling of the joints of the legs, wings, and feet which become hard, hot, very red, and apparently painful.

Sometimes after a lapse of several weeks they heal and apparently the pain ceases, bnt they leave an enlargement of the joints. This trouble usually comes from colds or an unusual amount of moisture and the best remedy is to keep the bird in a warm, dry place and rub with olive oil. In some cases Lithia tablets are dissolved in water and given to the bird.
