Pneumonia or Inflammations of the Lungs

This is an acute inflammation of the lungs and the larynx, and is one of the most formidable complaints with which we have to deal, as well as one of the most frequent. The bird affected with this disease breathes very short and rapid, frequently with a wheezing sound.

There is quite a perceptible fever and sometimes coughing, with a discharge of yellow phlegm sometimes streaked with blood. A hot vapor bath, described elsewhere on this site, is an excellent thing, and the bird should thereafter be kept in a warm position night and day.

It does much better if the air is moist as well as warm. The diet should be simple and nourishing. A little aconite should be administered as recommended on the "Bird cold and influenza" page.
