Insects

Usually what appears to be skin disease comes from minute insects which bite or burrow in the skin. These mites or bird lice annoy the bird greatly.

When this trouble is suspected cover the cage at night with Canton flannel, fleece side down. The mites will gather on this during the night and it should be dipped into boiling water early in the morning to destroy them.

Be sure to attend to it early or they will crawl back on the bird. Dust the cage thoroughly with Persian insect powder and rub it through the feathers on all parts of the bird. If there is any woodwork about the cage it is well to paint the crevices with fir tree oil.
