Disease of the feet

This usually occurs from the bird's being kept oil a metal perch or from the perch being frequently washed and left wet which causes rheumatism or inflammation.

More frequently, however, sore feet come from the incrustation of dirt which sometimes causes small ulcerous suppuration, As a rule washing the feet with warm water and afterwards putting on a mixture of glycerine and water will heal them. Tincture of arnica is also excellent.

Sometimes the toe nails become too long and require cutting which is easily done with a knife or sharp shears. It is also necessary sometimes to trim the beak back, as it is inclined to grow too long or too much hooked. If beak is very dry and inclined to split rub with warm olive oil.
