Diarrhoea

This arises from various causes and is a very common complaint as well as dangerous unless it has prompt attention.

Nothing causes it more frequently than sour or partially spoiled food. With this complaint the excrement is whiter and more slimy and the feathers under the tail stick together.

Keep the bird in a warm place, withholding water, fruit and green stuff and feed it on plain dry food. If the bird can be induced to eat it, a cracker dipped in blackberry brandy and sprinkled with cayenne pepper will warm the stomach and sometimes effect a cure.

In some cases we have given three to five drops of paregoric in a teaspoonful of boiled milk with good results. A little honey is also good for them.
